"With the help of Bharatiya Kishan Sangh, labour department, Delhi police and other agencies working against human trafficking, nineteen girls from Jharkhand were rescued from various states and were brought to Ranchi from Delhi yesterday," Pradhan told reporters here.
With the intervention of a local court in Delhi, she said a total of Rs 4,79,342 was collected from the employers of the six girls towards payment of their wages and compensation.
"Two girls were given a maximum wage of Rs 1,61,355 and Rs 1,21,796 respectively while the other four girls got varying amounts," the minister said.
Stating that those who are minors would be admitted to a school, Pradhan said the amounts were converted into term deposits in their name and fixed deposit certificates were given to them.
The Chairperson of Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Rights of Children, Rupal Laxmi Munda, described human trafficking as serious and said action plan was underway to curb it.
The girls were rescued during surprise checks by the police and other agencies, said Sanjay Mishra, state Coordinator of Action Against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC).
