The Madras High Court Bench today directed the Registrar (Judicial) to provide documents on the suo motu criminal contempt of court case against W Peter Ramesh Kumar, former president of Madurai Bench High Court Advocates Association.

Justices V Ramasubramanian and N Kirubakaran gave the direction after the advocate submitted that he had only received the summons and other documents relating to the charge made against him.

The case had been posted for hearing on December 10.

The suo motu contempt petition was issued for reportedly disrupting court proceedings on September 16 and "challenging the court to take action against him if it had guts."

The notice, issued by the Deputy Registrar (Judicial), said Justices R Sudhakar and V M Velumani had directed the Registry on September 16 to issue the notice, calling upon him to show cause why action should not be taken against him for committing acts of contempt.

Kumar was one of the 14 lawyers suspended by the Bar Council of India on September 22.
