Aam Aadmi Party today said Punjab has no surplus water to give to Haryana and it should instead be given from the Sharda-Yamuna Link canal.

AAP leader H S Phoolka said that as per the plan made in 2002, central government agreed to construct Sharda-Yamuna Link canal starting from Champawat district of Uttarakhand and merging it with Yamuna river near Karnal in Haryana.

Even Supreme Court had told the Centre to construct the canal as the excessive water was causing floods in Uttarakhand and it can be used in Haryana, he said.

"Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal must talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ask his alliance partner to construct Sharda-Yamuna Link canal so that unnecessary conflict between Punjab and Haryana can be solved," he said.

Phoolka said political inability and lack of willingness of SAD-BJP and Congress created tussle between Punjab and Haryana on the issue of sharing of river waters.
