GJM urges WB Govt to expedite transfer of depts to GTA

GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri, who held a meeting with state Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee, told newsmen that only 26 out of the total 58 departments had been handed to GTA so far.

"The GTA is supposed to receive Rs 200 crore fund from the Centre annually for four years, but has so far received only Rs 89 crore. Payment of the dues should also be expedited," he said.

Giri, who is heading a six-member delegation, also made a a courtesy call on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"We have also asked the Home Secretary to withdraw all pending criminal cases against our leaders and workers since the time of movement in the hills," he said.

 

The home secretary, he said, would be in Darjeeling on November 26 to hold meetings with secretaries of different departments, besides district magistrates and superintendents of police of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri, the divisional commissioner of Darjeeling and IG (North Bengal) to discuss and resolve various issues.
