Glad to be chosen for Dronacharya Award: Sunil Dabas

Though I had also applied for the award last year after clinching a gold medal in China Asian Games 2010 but could not make it.

Dabas hailing from Mohammadpur Majra village of historical Jhajjar district is the first woman coach from Haryana and fourth one from India, who has been named for the award.

While interacting with PTI here on Thursday, the elated coach said,"I am glad that I have been rewarded for the hard work that I put in during last seven years. Really, it's a proud moment for me and my family. The recognition will motivate me to go further."

 

Notably, Dabas has been the coach of women's kabaddi team since 2005 and since then till date, the Indian team has won six gold medal in various international championship including South Asian Games in 2006, 2nd Asian Championship in 2007, 3rd Asian Championship in 2007, 11th South Asian Games in 2009, Asian Games in 2010 and World Cup in 2012.

Dabas, who became the first woman kabaddi coach to have been chosen for the Dronacharya Award, said "Players have always been my priority and this recognition will, hopefully, help in raising the profile of Kabaddi in India."
