With emphasis on safer mobility, the World Road Meeting with India as the host country will see experts recommending steps to reduce road fatalities besides unveiling of apps like one for star-rating of highways, the organisers said today.
Over 1,000 global road safety experts, professionals, companies and government organisations will take part in the 18th World Road Meeting (WRM) 'Crossroads-WRM 2017' from November 14-17 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida.
Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the global road meet being held in India for the first time by the Geneva-based International Road Federation (IRF).
The WRM 2017 will focus on the theme of 'Safer Roads and Smart Mobility: The Engines of Economic Growth'.
"Global experts will come out with recommendations for safer roads and minimising accidents. IRAP (the International Road Assessment Programme), an umbrella programme for Road Assessment Programmes (RAPs) worldwide, will also unveil its app for star rating of highways," IRF Chairman K K Kapila said.
IRF Crossroads-WRM is the global platform to facilitate the cross-pollination of ideas among pioneers, businesses and organisations as also to connect high-tech companies, leading experts in the field and governments, making mobility a positive reality for everyone, Kapila said.
"The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has extended its support to WRM2017," he said.
The government is a signatory to the UN Decade of Action for road safety to achieve 50 per cent reduction in road deaths in the country by 2020.
The deliberations at the conference will focus on finding sustainable solutions for managing increased vehicular traffic, pollution and safety related issues.
The major highlight of WRM 2017 will be an exhibition showcasing state-of-the-art technologies on road safety and traffic regulations including control systems, communication and navigation devices, driver training systems, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and others.
The participants include Anne Berner, Minister of Transport, Finland; Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, Canada; Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and R C Bhargava, Non-Executive Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, among others.
