The GLOBE India Centre was inaugurated by United Kingdom's former Deputy Prime Minister Lord John Prescott, in presence of BJP leaders Prakash Javdekar, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and several other Parliamentarians.
"This presents a unique opportunity for India in all fields. With political map of India becoming diverse, the National Action Plan on climate change, the state and local action plans are of great importance for real development," Prescott said in his inaugural address.
He also praised democratic accountability of the country as real feature of Indian system of governance.
The British leader hoped that GLOBE India can play a meaningful role by giving new meaning to the role of legislators.
GLOBE India will start functioning from the forthcoming budget session of Parliament. Already 50 MPs have joined the forum, a release said.
Prescott also mentioned that by 2016 many countries should join GLOBE International thus strengthening the work towards sustainable development and climate change related issues.
GLOBE India also intends to work with Ministry of Environment and Forest and other relevant Government agencies on various climate and sustainable development issues.
