GMC hospital gets hemophilia care centre in Jammu

A hemophilia care centre has been set up at Government Medical College (GMC) hospital here in the city.

Minister for Health and Medical Education Taj Mohiuddin, who inaugurated the centre at GMC hospital here, today said it was an important step for improving the quality of medicare services in the state.

Patients suffering from hemophilia and other coagulation disorders will be provided all associated medical facilities at the centre under one roof, like physiotherapy, orthopaedic checkup and facilities of surgeons, neurosurgeon and intensive care management to cater to emergency cases, Head Department of Pathology Prof K K Kaul said.

Round-the-clock emergency services and causality management in cases of trauma for such patients are also available here, Prof Kaul said.
 

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder which impairs the ability of body to control blood clotting or coagulation.

The centre has a facility of five beds specially designed for such patients, HoD Pathology said, adding that the centre has been established at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.

The minister said such events provide medical fraternity an opportunity to update knowledge and find solutions for medical problems through exchange and sharing of scientific ideas.
