The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) today said it has issued a notice for removing illegal encroachment in the Silsako Lake here.

"Any person encroaching Silsako beel is asked to vacate the land and remove any unauthorised structure immediately," a GMDA release said here today.

"Otherwise, such encroachment and unauthorised structure shall be evicted by force as per the provisions of Assam Land Revenue Regulation Act and Guwahati Water-bodies Preservation and Conservation Act," it added.

Strict legal action will be initiated against such persons found violating the laws, the release mentioned.

The GMDA said encroachment of Silsako beel in Guwahati is a criminal offence under Guwahati Water Bodies Preservation and Conservation Act 2008.

"The encroachers, who are found occupying such government-notified land, are liable to eviction by the Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle," it said.
