an Assam-based worker of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) a tribal rebel group of Meghalaya from near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Acting on a lead provided by another cadre of the GNLA who was arrested by the security forces on August 5, a joint operation of the state police and the BSF raided the Tinpur village of South West Khasi Hills district and apprehended Ashish Sangma, officials said.
Sangma is a resident of Chittalmari of Naugaon (Assam) but lately has moved to Tinpur, they said.
BSF said, Sangma revealed that he used to provide shelter and other administrative support to GNLA militants.
Formed in 2010, GNLA has been declared a terror organisation for their involvement in kidnapping, extortion and killing of both civilians and security forces in the five Garo Hills districts and pockets of South West Khasi Hills district.
