A day after the Central team completed its inspection of flood hit regions, DMK patriarch Karunanidhi today said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa should go to Delhi if needed and get more funds for relief operations and take steps for its proper distribution.
Even as Tamil Nadu was bracing for more rains, he said the State government "should not delay" getting relief from the Centre, and wanted the AIADMK regime to get in touch with the Centre immediately.
"If needed, the Chief Minister should go to Delhi, hold talks with the Centre and get more funds (for relief) and take steps for its proper distribution among the affected people," he said.
Emphasising that there "should be no discrimination in disbursal of relief," he reiterated that such assistance must be given in the presence of panels, comprising members of all political parties.
He wanted display of the list of relief fund beneficiaries in the office of local panchayats.
"The ruling party (AIADMK) should not consider disbursal of relief fund as a curtain-raiser to the Assembly elections," he said sarcastically.
To a question over the Central team not visiting flood hit Tuticorin, he said, the Central team seems to have visited only regions indicated by the State government.
He also alleged that there were "complaints by people to the Central team against the State government. They have complained that relief work was not happening in Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's RK Nagar constituency itself.
