Goa Assembly pays tribute to Manna Dey, Farooq Sheikh

Goa Legislative Assembly today paid tributes to legendary singer Manna Dey and veteran actor Farooq Sheikh among nine others who passed away recently.

Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar, making the obituary reference, termed Dey as the person who brought Indian music scene on the world canvass.

He also called Sheikh as one of the most versatile actors in the Indian film industry.

Dey was an eminent multi-lingual singer, a creative genius who, by his unique style of singing melodious songs, enthralled the nation and the world alike with his enchanting voice, Arlekar said.

Dey had passed away in October last year while Sheikh died in December.
 

The House also paid tributes to world leader Nelson Mandela and other local personalities, including Vasantrao Subrai Joshi (industrialist), Jaisinghrao Rane Sardesai (former legislator), Pandit Purushottam Walawalkar (harmonium maestro), Gunlo Parkar and Madhukar Acharya (both freedom fighters), Vijay Nadkarni (former advocate general), Sudha Amonkar (educationist) and Tulsidas Lotlikar (singer).
