Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today gave his in-principle nod to sanction Rs 25 crore for each constituency for development works with a condition that road repair works top the list of projects.

Parrikar today held a meeting of MLAs from North Goa to take stock of the developmental works being undertaken in their respective constituencies.

According to sources, Parrikar was informed about the urgency to take up road repairing works in various constituencies, which are damaged due to monsoon.

State Urban Development Minister Francis D'Souza said the amount would be released to each constituency (Goa has 40 constituencies) during the current financial year, which they have to spend, primarily on repairing roads.

"Chief Minister has in-principle sanctioned Rs 25 crores for each constituency to take up various planned and unplanned works through Public Works Department," he said.

D'Souza said Rs 15 crore will be released by December and rest Rs 10 crore will be provided in the later stage.

"All the amount has to be spent by March 31, 2018," the minister said.

D'Souza said due to prolonged code of conduct, the developmental works in the State had taken a backseat, which will now be revived with the funding.
