In a curious claim, Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar today said BJP workers from the constituencies represented by non-BJP ministers are being harassed and approaching him for "help".

"I have been receiving phone calls from BJP workers from Fatorda, Porvorim, Saligao and Siolim constituencies who are pleading for help to save them from the harassment meted out to them by local MLAs who are ministers in the Cabinet," Chodankar said in a statement.

Fatorda, Saligao and Siolim constituencies are represented by the Goa Forward Party (GFP), which is one of the constituents of the BJP-led state government while Porvorim by Independent legislator Rohan Khaunte who is Revenue Minister.

Vijai Sardesai represents Fatorda seat while Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinoda Paliencar are MLAs from Saligao and Siolim seats, respectively.

Sardesai, Salgaonkar, and Paliencar are all Cabinet ministers.

Apart from the GFP, the Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three Independents are constituents of the Manohar Parrikar-led government.

When contacted, state unit BJP president Vinay Tendulkar rubbished Chodankar's claims.

"We have booth-level organisations in place in most of the assembly constituencies including those named by Chodankar. Why would they approach Chodankar for?" Tendulkar questionned.
