Goa Police has started an inquiry into the credentials of a Brazilian national who is living in the state with 12 minors hailing from Maharashtra.

As he was seen with several minors, living in a bungalow it prompted the police to start an inquiry, a senior police official said.

Goa Police's Women and Child Cell was verifying the credentials of the man and a NGO he runs, which he claims was registered in Maharashtra, the official said.

"We have not found anything objectionable right now but inquiry is on. We are probing the details of his NGO which we have understood is not registered (contrary to his claim)," the official added.

Police did not disclose his name.
