Goa police today claimed a "phenomenal" drop in crime rate in the state, attributing it to better policing measures in the state.
"A phenomenal decrease in crime rate by 31.21 per cent has been achieved by the Goa Police due to better staffing, implementation of various preventive measures and continuous efforts made by districts and the units," a police spokesman said in the review issued here today.
The crime detection rate rose from 69.6 per cent in 2014 to 82.62 per cent in 2015, an increase of 12.98 per cent, the official said.

This shows that there is a remarkable decline of 26.03 per cent in the number of heinous crimes and an increase in their detection rate by 6.91 per cent, they said.
In 2015, the number of total theft cases reported stood at 784, out of which 439 (55.99 per cent) were detected. However, the theft cases reported in 2014 added up to 1517, out of which 554 cases (36.52 per cent) were detected.
This shows that there is a decrease of 48.32 per cent in the crime (theft), and an upsurge in its detection rate by 19.48 per cent, he said.
With regard to crimes against women, a total of 441 cases were reported, of which as many as 405 cases (91.83 per cent) were detected. As for 2014, the number of crimes against women stood at 549 cases, of which 495 (90.16 per cent) reached detection, he said.
The data shows that there is a noticeable decrease (of 19.67 per cent) in the crimes against women, and an increase in their detection rate by 1.67 per cent, he said.
The number of 'hurt' cases came down to 275 in 2015, as against 371 'hurt' cases in 2014, he stated.
"A record number of offenders were arrested in property offences in the year 2015, resulting in a 48.32 per cent reduction in the number of burglary and theft cases," the spokesman said.
Technical surveillance has been maintained on the movements of the criminals, he said, adding that in many cases, the CCTV footages captured helped the police in zeroing in on their identity.
Effective preventive action has also been taken against the habitual offenders, he said.
"Through persistent efforts and pursuit of even the slightest clues collected from the places of occurrence, Goa Police was able to solve many cases, especially property cases, and bring the criminals to book," he said.
