Goa DGP suspends anti-burglary squad chief for accepting bribe

Goa Police today suspended the chief of anti-burglary squad Sandesh Chodankar after he was allegedly found accepting bribes along with five constables.

Chodankar was suspended today by Director General of Police T Mohan on the inquiry report submitted by Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap, a police spokesperson said.

The Police Inspector rank officer was found to have accepted bribe of Rs seven lakh from a city based spa, threatening him of a raid, he added.

The anti-burglary squad was formed in the force after spate of robberies reported in the state.

Chodankar, who was found guilty in the inquiry, was yesterday shunted to Goa Reserve Police (GRP) section, before being suspended today.
 

Five constables who were found to have been aiding the officer were also shifted to GRP, but not suspended.

An FIR has been filled against Chodankar and five constables under relevant sections of Anti-Corruption Act, police said.
