Goa electricity dept clerk booked for swindling

A clerk with electricity department has been booked for allegedly cheating the government to the tune of Rs 28 lakh by creating fake salary accounts, police said today.

The Lower Division Clerk, Vinod Mayekar, has been accused of dishonestly preparing salary bills of his department's staff by adding names of fictitious persons as employees, a police spokesperson said.

Mayekar allegedly diverted Rs 28 lakh and withdrew it for his personal gains between April 2014 and February 22, 2016, he said.

M G Dessai, Executive Engineer of the department, lodged a complaint against Mayekar who was entrusted with preparation and submission of pay bills of department staff.
 

A case was yesterday registered against him, the Spokesperson said.
