Goa government is keeping on hold its plan to set up a Tax Evasion Bureau till it finds officials with impeccable integrity to man it.

"I had announced Tax Evasion Bureau in the budget but that is yet to be done," Parrikar told the state Legislative Assembly in his reply to legislators who have expressed their concern over evasion of the Value Added Tax (VAT) by various traders.

Parrikar said the government was in the process of finding out suitable officers for the bureau.

"I am finding out people of impeccable integrity for the bureau. I should be 100 per cent sure about the person(s) who would be posted in the bureau," he said.

The proposed bureau will be under the Chief Minister.

"The fear that Chief Minister's name may be misused has forced me to be cautious while setting up the bureau," he added.
