In a bid to identify the sectors that are lagging behind in employment generation, the Goa government will gather relevant data and organise job fairs over a month beginning May 11, Labour and Employment Minister Rohan Khaunte said today.
The objective of the government behind organising the job fairs and gathering data of various sectors is to properly channelise the creation of jobs as well as skill development, he said.
A total of three job fairs would be organised during May 11 to June 10 at Porvorim, Curchorem, and at Ponda or Tisk Usgao.
"While we speak about unemployment, there is no data to identify the particular category of unemployment. We also don't have the data about the manpower at our disposal or the available vacancies in the state," Khaunte told reporters.
The minister said the BJP-led state government has taken a slew of measures to bring down the quantum of unemployment.
He said the government aims to connect availability of jobs with skill development.

"The IT policy and similar initiatives have offered incentives for employment generation. While working on the issue, we thought that there should be some trade fairs for the job seekers," he said.
Khaunte said around 50 companies are expected to participate in the job fair to be held at Porvorim near Panaji on May 11.
"We have called a meeting of HR managers on May 12 to share the plans of the government towards employment generation," he said.
The Porvorim job fair will be organised in association with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ASSOCHAM, National Institute of Coastal Management and Goa Technology Association.
