Goa Governor B V Wanchoo has expressed concern over the rising crime in the state.
"We should arrest this undesirable trend at all cost and make Goa at least a less crime state, if not a crime-less or a crime-free state," the Governor said in his address released here today, on the occasion of Statehood Day tomorrow.
"This is a stupendous task which calls for determined efforts from not only the law enforcement agencies but also the general public. We need to work together to achieve this objective," he added.
The Governor has also referred to the 18-month-long ban on the mining industry claiming that the people of Goa had to bear the brunt of economic recession and unemployment due to the closure of the activities in the state.
"It is, however, a matter of satisfaction and relief for everyone that the Supreme Court has recently lifted the ban it had imposed on mining activities in the state," he said.
"It is now for the government and all the stakeholders to work sincerely with cooperation, coordination and a conciliatory approach to evolve a suitable and transparent policy on mining in accordance with the court order and all other factors germane to this important economic activity," Wanchoo said.
On the occasion of Statehood Day, we should give a renewed thought to the future socio-economic progress of the state, which is indeed an arduous challenge, he said.
"The government has introduced and undertaken several welfare measures and developmental projects. The successful and imaginative implementation of these welfare schemes and policies calls for the determined, wholehearted and sincere service of our administrative machinery, besides cooperation and a helping hand from the citizens," he added.
