Goa Government today introduced a Bill which seeks to revise taxation on passengers and goods carried by buses and contract carriages.

Transport Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar introduced the Goa Motor Vehicles (Taxation on Passengers and Goods) (Amendment) Act, 2016 in the Assembly.

The Bill seeks to bring parity in taxation for passenger buses and also contract carriers plying inter-state. It proposes to levy a charge of Rs 275 per seat per month in both kinds of vehicles.

The buses plying within Goa were earlier charged Rs 250 per seat per month, and those plying inter-state (contract carriage sleeper coaches) were charged Rs 200 per seat.

The draft Bill said no financial implications were involved in the Bill.

However, amendments proposed in the Bill would result in an additional revenue collection of around Rs 19 crore per annum.
