A deputy sarpanch of a village in Goa has moved the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of an FIR filed against him based on a complaint of molestation lodged by a woman Shiv Sena leader in the state.

Abhijit Desai, deputy sarpanch of Netravali village of Sanguem taluka of South Goa, filed a petition in the High Court of Bombay at Goa earlier this week, in which he challenged the FIR filed against him by the Crime Branch.

In his affidavit filed before the HC, Desai said the woman had lodged a complaint against him accusing him of putting a defamatory post on Facebook.

In his affidavit filed in the HC, Desai said, "The complaint bears no date. However, it was apparently inwarded in the office of the chief minister on July 14, 2018 and the CM marked the same to SP (Superintendent of Police), Cyber Crime for 'appropriate action' on July 17, 2018."

"The complaint was thereafter marked to the Office of the SP (Cyber Crime) and finally forwarded to the Inspector Cyber Crime cell, who without conducting any inquiry and apparently under pressure of the direction of the chief minister, rushed to register the FIR under sections 500, 509 of IPC, wherein the petitioner (Desai) was named as an accused," he said.

Cyber Crime Cell had filed the FIR against Desai on July 19, 2018.

The matter is likely to be heard on October 19.
