Goa is not in competition with southern states in terms of expansion of the IT sector, even as the state government has allocated funds for the operationalisation of IT Investment Policy (ITIP) 2015-20, a senior government official said.
"The state government has earmarked Rs 12 crore during the recent budget for operationalising IT Investment Policy (ITIP) 2015-20 through online registration system," Director for Information and Technology Amey Abhyankar said.
He said Goa is not competing with other states, specially with Southern states like Karnataka.
In its primary phase, the ITIP proposes to rope in at least 10 ITES (IT Enabled Services) and five Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) units in the state with a target of generating direct or indirect employment for 15,000 professionals.
"The IT department will float online platform to commence the registration process this month," Abhyankar said.
He said state government's key focus is oninviting IT enabled service providers, including startups providing back-end operation like medical transcription, banking solutions, engineering services and Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC).
The director said KPO is mostly knowledge focused, requiring limited human resource.
Among other initiatives of the state government on the IT front include appointment of a consultant in respect of IT Park at Chimbel (near Panaji) and Electronics City at Tuem (North Goa) and the master plan for both the sites would be ready in a period of around three months. This was announced by the chief minister in the 2016-17 budget.
