Following a series of incidents in Goa last week in which citizens were robbed of their valuables by criminals, who posed as constables, the state police department today issued an advisory asking people to remain alert.
Deputy Inspector General O P Mishra told PTI that the police are conducting trend analysis of the crime at their level. "But people have also been alerted not to fall pray for such rogues," he said.
Two cases of robbing gold ornaments claiming to be policemen, were reported in the state last week.
The modus operandi in both the cases remained the same as the criminals took away the gold warning the victims that it was not safe for them to wear the ornaments as the area was crime-prone.
"General public are advised to be more careful of such persons who claim to be policemen and thereafter cheat the people," the advisory issued by state police reads.
It has also requested the people to ask for the identification of the policemen, if they approach, especially if he is in civil clothes.
Police have also warned goldsmiths not to buy gold without verifying the identity of the person who is selling it.
