Goa today became the first state in the country to provide health cover to all its residents by rolling out 'Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana' which covers nearly 447 different ailments, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said.
"We have been working on this scheme for the last four years and hence today became the only state in the country to provide medical cover to its entire population," Parsekar said, adding that his government would spend around Rs 100-140 crore on the scheme.
DDSSY will be implemented across all the government and empanelled private hospitals in the state which has two districts.

"Treatment, including Ayurvedic, for nearly 447 ailments consisting of mental illness, along with long-term medication for chronic life-style diseases like hypertension and diabetes will be available at 19 empanelled private hospitals and four government-run hospitals, including the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC)," Parsekar said on the occasion.
He said state government will monitor implementation of the scheme, and would cancel empanelment of private hospitals concerned if they fail to provide quality service to the beneficiaries.
He admitted that the scheme might have some "teething problems" since it's new and would be reviewedafter March 31, 2017.
DDSSY would be implemented by M/s United India Insurance Co Ltd at a premium of Rs 3,206 per family for next five years, the CM added.
The government had announced DDSSY in its budget, with an aim to provide a health cover through an insurance policy Scheme to the entire resident population of the state.
