Goa shortlisted for hosting World Bridge Championship

Goa has been shortlisted as one of the venues to host the World Team Championship in the mindsport of Bridge in 2015, it was announced by the President of the World Bridge Federation (WBF), Gianarrigo Rona, here today.

The championship comprises of four events namely Bermuda Bowl, for zone wise qualified countries, the Venice Cup for Ladies, the d'Orsi Senior Bowl, for veterans, and the Open World Transnational Teams Championship.

The championship will be held over a two-week period. The 2013 championship is being hosted by Indonesia at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center.

Bridge is one of the only four mindsports which has been accorded recognition by the International Olympics Committee. The other three being the Oriental game GO, the elimination game DRAUGHTS and the Royal game CHESS.
 

IMSA, the International Mind Sport Association, describes contract bridge as a two stage game where teams try to outwit each other in play, based on information gathered during the bidding stage.

Rona today visited different sites, including the Grand Hyatt Goa, and expressed satisfaction with the event areas to host a World Championship.

Tomorrow, Rona is scheduled to meet Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar and Sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar to discuss state's bid to host the championship.
