Ahead of the Eid, the state-run Goa Meat Complex Limited (GMCL) had decided to open its abattoir for slaughter of animals for three days starting from September 25, the officials said.
"The slaughter house is currently undergoing major upgradation. But to meet the demand of Qurbani during the Eid we have decided to allow the abattoir to be used on September 25, 26 and 27," said GMCL chairman Lyndon Monteiro.
The slaughterhouse can execute 300 animals a day, he said, adding that already 40 animals have been lined up for Qurbani.

The abbatoir had run into a controversy last year after Hindu organisations claimed that a cow was butchered at the facility, which the management denied.
Fearing trouble, the district administration has issued prohibitory orders this time, barring gathering of people outside the abbatoir.
