The Goa government would be adopting an 'affirmative approach' to encourage industries to employ local residents, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the Assembly today.
He ruled out taking the reservation route to increase representation of locals in industries.
"There can be two kinds of approach to such an issue. One is reservation and second is affirmative. We have decided to adopt affirmative approach," he told the house during his address on demands for grants.

Parrikar was referring to the demand by the opposition and ruling members to make certain percentage of jobs for locals mandatory in the industries that come up in the state.
The state government can formulate a policy wherein subsidy and benefits would be given to industries depending on the number of Goans they employ, he said.
Parrikar attributed the current price rise in tomatoes to "rains and traffic bottlenecks".
