Considering the increasing milk production in the state, the Goa government has submitted a proposal to the Centre to set up another milk cooperative union.
"The second (milk cooperative) union is required in the state considering that the milk production here has almost doubled and the existing union is not able to cater to this demand," Goa Animal Husbandry Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told reporters today.
The existing union- Goa State Milk Cooperative Union- is locally known as Goa Dairy.

He said the Goa Dairy was sending the local milk outside for processing as their facility was not enough to meet the requirement of increasing production.
"At present, the state produces 82,000 litre of milk every day thanks to the various schemes implemented by the department," the minister said adding, "By the time the second dairy is established, the production will touch one lakh litres daily mark."
According to the minister, the second milk cooperative would become a reality in the next one and half years. "However, the first union will not be closed down even after the second one is set up," he said.
