Goa to host country's first science film fest on Jan 14

Country's first Science Film Festival of India (SCI-FFI), showcasing the science-based films around the globe, will be held here from January 14.

The four-day event is organised jointly by Vigyan Parishad, the Department of Science and Technology, Goa, Entertainment Society of Goa, Goa Science Centre and National Institute of Oceanography, at ESG premises.

"Students and science enthusiast should maximise on this opportunity which will showcase world class science-based films. This (festival) provides a platform for interactive sessions with renowned scientists and mesmerise those who like to think out-of-the-box through the specially curated hands on workshops," said SWA Naqvi, chairman of Organising Committee and Director, NIO.
 

"Also for those who are bitten by bug of film-making...Learn how science is essential to this field and while you learn to make a film and win prizes galore (sic)," Naqvi said.

During the course of the festival, organisers will visit 60 schools in the state wherein films based on theme of science will be screened and an interaction held between scientists and students.

Saieesh Gandhi, Secretary, Organising Committee, said several competitions based on theme of science will be conducted and a planetarium will be set up temporally.
