Goa to host Science Film Festival of India from January 14

In a cinematic treat for sci-fi movie enthusiasts, Goa is all set to host the first edition of Science Film Festival of India (SCI-FFI) from January 14.

The three-day event is organised by Vigyan Parishad, a body of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, in association with Department of Science and Technology-Goa, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Goa Science Centre and National Institute of Oceanography, an official press release issues said.

Taking notes from the huge potential of "brand Goa" as a film festival destination, Vigyan Parishan will hold the event at the ESG premises here.
 

Beside film screenings, discussions, interactive sessions and workshops with experts and scientists will also be held, the release said.

Noted experts like scientists G Madhavan Nair, Suresh Naik, filmmaker Mike Pandey and many others would be sharing their expertise and knowledge with the participants.

The organisers said they will have to narrow down on students from Class VII to IX and Class XI as their target group, but people from all age groups are invited to register themselves as delegates.

"This is an opportunity for all of us, students of science to come together and witness this freshly created concept of a film festival themed around the marvels of Science. Youngsters should utilise this opportunity and participate in the competition 'Dream to Screen'," the release read.

The festival will showcase a motley of sci-fi films ranging from "The Martian", Russell Crowe's "A Beautiful Mind", Roland Emmerich's "2012" to "World War Z", giving sci-fi film lovers a awe-inspiring experience.
