Goa tourism dept begins probe against fake travel agencies

The agencies were operating in tourist hubs like Calangute, Morjim, Candolim and Margao

Goa tourism department has initiated an inquiry against ten fake travel agencies operating in the state, Legislative Assembly was told today.

The government has taken action against fake travel agencies operating in the state, Goa tourism minister Dilip Parulekar told the House.

Responding to a written question tabled by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginald, Parulekar submitted a list of ten agencies against whom the department of tourism has initiated action under Tourist Trade Act.

As per the reply, the agencies were operating in tourist hubs like Calangute, Morjim, Candolim and Margao.

While three agencies each were operating in Candolim and Margao, two each were in Calangute and Morjim, he said.
 

Show cause notices have been issued to these agencies and action under relevant provisions of Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act is underway, Parulekar said.
