Goa Vikas Party (GVP) today rejected the proposal by its chief Fransisco Miccky Pacheco to merge the organisation with another outfit - United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP).
"GVP's Central Executive Committee today met and unanimously decided not to merge the party with UGDP. Though there is no formal proposal of merger, our party supremo Fransisco Miccky Pacheco had made a statement in the media expressing desire for a merger with UGDP," GVP General Secretary Lyndon Monteiro told reporters here.
Pacheco, a former Minister and the MLA from Nuvem, had told mediapersons this week that GVP should be merged with UGDP as the former (GVP) is seen as a BJP-friendly party.
Monteiro said the committee has decided the GVP would fight the upcoming Assembly election on its own. "Ours is an upcoming party. We have decided to contest in constituencies where we have good strength," he said.
The GVP, in 2012 election, had won two seats - Nuvem and Benaulim, represented by Caetan Silva.
