Three persons including a self-styled 'godman' were arrested for allegedly cheating and molesting a woman, who went for consultation to his chamber, in the city, a police officer said.

Self-styled 'godman' Samir Das alias Sadhu (42) and his two associates were arrested last midnight after a woman, resident of Balagarh in Hooghly district, lodged a complaint at Ballygunge police station last evening, the officer said.

"It was a year back when the woman went to Das' Beltala Road office after seeing his advertorial show on a local channel for consultation on family problems. In her complaint she alleged that she gave Das Rs 1,20,000 in cash and gold jewellery," the investigating police officer said.

On the pretext of solving her problems, Das took her to various religious places but when nothing happened and the woman demanded her money and jewellery, Sadhu started avoiding her.

Not ready to give up she visited his place again and was allegedly molested by Das along with his two associates who further threatened her with dire consequences, the officer said quoting the complaint.

A case has been registered against the three under Sections 420, 120B, 509, 506 of IPC, and arrested.
