Godrej Appliances has entered into a technology licensing agreement with UK's Sure Chill Company for manufacturing and marketing medical refrigerators in India.
This also marks the entry of the company into the health vertical.
"Godrej is committed towards improving quality of life in society. We have partnered with Sure Chill to manufacture the product," Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Managing Director Jamshyd Godrej told reporters here today.
Godrej Appliances is part of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company.
Elaborating on the company's plan in the health vertical, Godrej Appliances Business Head and EVP Kamal Nandi said: "We plan to launch more products in the health space going forward. These include passive coolers."
Talking about demand for the product, Nandi said approximately 151 million vaccines, equivalent to USD 750 million, are lost annually due to improper refrigeration.
The company said it will also look at exporting the product to neighbouring countries, Middle East and in the Africa region.
Godrej's medical refrigerators will be available in two variants priced in the range of Rs 65,000 and Rs 1.35 lakh for different storage capacities.
