Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today appealed to people to cooperate in the peaceful conduct of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) election beginning tomorrow.
Gogoi said grievances of various non-Rabha, Garo and other organisations were being examined by the government for finding out a solution acceptable to all sections.
He also appealed to all organisations to call off their agitation programmes and cooperate to ensure that the Council polls pass off peacefully.
Assam's Goalpara and parts of neighbouring Kamrup district have been witnessing violence since last month with non-tribals demanding exclusion of non-Rabha areas from the RHAC and protesting against the forthcoming Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections scheduled to be held between November 13 and 25.
