Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today ordered the chief secretary to constitute a committee and formulate an action plan for protection and preservation of historical monuments in the state.
"Gogoi said the committee would formulate a scientific and systematic action plan for the protection of all the historical monuments in the state," an official release said.
The committee would study all aspects and suggest recommendations leading to repairing, restoring and preserving ancient and historical monuments, it said.
"The state Government would also approach the Centre for matching financial assistance in its bid for the preservation and protection of ancient and historical monuments in Assam," the statement added.
