Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today criticised the NDA government at the Centre for maintainig double standards in its gesture in honouring the Father of the Nation.
In a statement here, Gogoi said that on one hand when the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was observing 'Swacch Bharat' campaign to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, the same government was keeping mum when Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha was portraying Nathuram Godse as much more patriotic than Mahatma Gandhi.
He also took a dig at Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha for deciding to commemorate November 15 - the day Godse was hanged - as Balidan Diwas.
The Centre's silence on Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha's plan to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse's execution day as Balidan Diwas indicates BJP's double standards, the chief minister said.
