Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, days after his bete noire Himanta Biswa Sarma's decision to quit the party and join BJP.
Gogoi's meeting assumed significance as a section of the party believes that Sarma's departure would dent Congress' prospect in next year's assembly elections in Assam due due later this year.
The Chief Minister, however, dismissed the suggestion that Sarma's departure would have an impact on the prospect of Congress which has been in power in Assam for the past nearly 15 years.
