Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birthday and said the country should now strive for economic independence.
"Bose fought against imperialism by opposing tooth and nail all sorts of oppression and subjugation and freed the country from the chains of slavery. For the supreme sacrifices of Netaji and others, we are breathing the air of freedom today," the Chief Minister said at a function here.
"We have attained political independence, but we have to strive relentlessly towards achieving economic independence. For this, we have to work together to remove poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and other problems plaguing us," he said.
"Inspired by Netaji's ideals, the Assamm Government is working towards solving various problems that of health, education, unemployment, drinking water and sanitation," he said.
