Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss various issues related to the state, including illegal infiltration, with his Bangladeshi counterpart during his forthcoming visit to that country.

"Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the issues with immediate concern to Assam with his Bangladeshi counterpart during his ensuing two-day Bangladesh visit," an official release said.

Gogoi requested Modi to raise cross border infiltration and other matters with his Bangladeshi counterpart, it added.

The statement further said the Chief Minister has urged the Prime Minister to take up the issue related to deporting illegal infiltrators detected in Assam by the Foreigners' Tribunal to nail the matter once for all.

Besides, Gogoi said Modi should take up the matter to bolster water and surface communication of Assam with Bangladesh and introduce rail link to utilise the geographical proximity to harvest optimum benefits in the areas of trade and commerce.
