Congress today demanded a CBI probe into the death of a 15-year-old Dalit boy allegedly in police custody in Gohana.

Senior Congress leader Kiran Choudhry today met the family members of the deceased and conveyed her condolences. She demanded a CBI probe into the incident, saying that the SIT set up by the BJP government "reflected casual approach which is not good".

"The Dalits in Haryana, who are feeling scared under the BJP government which keeps encouraging sectarian and parochial elements, need special protection," she said.

Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and State Congress chief Ashok Tanwar, too, have demanded a high-level independent probe into the incident.

Tanwar claimed that apart from an injury mark on the boy's neck, there were many wounds on his body "which do not indicate that the boy had committed suicide."

Two ASIs of Haryana Police have been booked on murder charges following allegations by the family that the boy died in police custody. An SIT headed by a DSP has also been formed to probe the case.

The Gohana incident had come close on the heels of two Dalit children being burnt alive at Sunped village in Faridabad district, in which the Haryana Government has already recommended a CBI probe.
