Gold prices today gained further in the domestic bullion market here on good local buying support as well as festival and wedding-related uptick.

Elsewhere, silver also strengthened on the back of sustained demand from industrial users.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) edged up by Rs 40 to settle at Rs 27,175 per 10 grams compared to last Saturday's closing level of Rs 27,135.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also moved up by a similar margin to end at Rs 27,325 per 10 grams from Rs 27,285.

Silver (.999 fineness) climbed by Rs 230 to conclude at Rs 39,350 per kg against Rs 39,120 last weekend.

On the global front, the precious metal continued its rising trend on safe-haven bet following disappointing US macro data and also ongoing jitters over Greece's future in the eurozone.

Spot gold was bid higher at USD 1,232.60 an ounce in early European trade, while silver softened at USD 17.28.
