Gold bars, mobiles worth Rs 15 lakh seized at Cochin airport

Customs Officers today arrested two passengers, who arrived from Sri Lanka, at Cochin International Airport and seized gold bars among other items valued at Rs 15 lakh from their possession, police said.

The officials said the gold bars were found wrapped in black coloured rexin, adhesive tapes and carbon paper and concealed in the rectum of both passengers.

Among the other items recovered were mobile phones and SD memory cards, they said.

The phones were concealed in specially made pouches on the sides of the shoulder bags, while the SD memory cards were hidden in talcum powder tins.

Both the passengers, who are frequent travellers, are natives of Tamil Nadu and had arrived from Singapore via Colombo.
