Gold bars seized at Kolkata airport

The Customs at the NSCBI airport here today recovered 1.75 kg of gold bars valued at Rs 46.72 lakh from under one of the seats of a Thai Airways aircraft which came from Bangkok.

Airport sources said that five gold bars, each weighing 350 grams, were kept inside the cushion of seat, which were seized as unclaimed.

The sources said that the person who was smuggling in the gold from Bangkok must have got wind of the Customs' knowledge of the contraband and escaped.
