Five robbers looted gold bars worth Rs 15.68 crore from a van, going from Mumbai to Nasik early today, a police official said.

The van which left the office of Sequel Logistics in Mumbai's Andheri area, was stopped near Wadiware village in Nasik at around 3 am today, a police official from Wadivare police station told PTI.

The van carried 60 gold bars, weighing a kilogram each, he said, adding that the gold was on its way to the Shirpur gold refinery.

The robbers, who stopped the van by parking another vehicle in the middle of the road, decamped with 58 gold bars, valued at Rs 15.68 crore, he said.

"The four people inside the van told the police that the five robbers stopped the van claiming that they were policemen, after which they brandished pistols and looted the gold," the police official said.

No arrests have been made so far, he said.
