Gold bars worth Rs 34 lakh seized from AI flight in Goa

Goa Customs today seized eleven gold bars worth Rs 34 lakh, which were found concealed in a packet hidden beneath a seat, from an Air India aircraft after it landed at the airport here, an official said.

"While performing the necessary checking after arrival of the Air India flight AI-994 today morning, the officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Goa Customs found a packet containing eleven gold bars, which was stuck beneath a passenger seat with an adhesive tape, in the aircraft," he said, adding that the gold bars weighed 1280 grams.

The official said that nobody came forward to claim ownership of the package.
 

"The value of the seized gold is Rs 34 lakh. The seizure was made under sections 110 and 111 of Customs Act," the department stated in a note.

This is the seventh such seizure of unclaimed gold made by the AIU this month, it said.
