Gold bars worth Rs 57 lakh seized from air passenger

Nearly two kg of gold worth Rs 57 lakh was seized at the airport here and a passenger arrested today for allegedly attempting to smuggle it from Dubai, Customs officials said.

The 32-year old passenger, hailing from Kasaragod, was found to have kept concealed six gold bars in his pant pockets and 11 bars in his rectum, they said.

The 17 gold bars, totally weighing 1,982.600 grams, were of 24 carat purity with a market value of Rs 57 lakh, the officials said adding further investigation was in progress.
