Twenty-nine gold biscuits, weighing a total of 4.8 kg and worth about Rs 1.5 crore, were seized by police here today from a vehicle.
Superintendent of Police, Katihar, Vikas Kumar, said during a routine checking of vehicles on National Highway no 31 in the district's Kodha police station area, occupants of a car tried to speed away upon noticing the posse of police personnel.
Policemen chased the car which, however, dashed against a tree nearby, leaving all its occupants - Sunny Kumar (20), Sunil Kumar (22) and Kanhaiya Singh (42) injured, the SP said.
Sunil and Kanhaiya were seriously injured and admitted to a hospital for treatment while Sunny has been taken into custody for interrogation after being administered first aid, the SP said.
As the police party pulled the injured people out of the vehicle, the gold biscuits were found concealed below the driving seat, the district police chief said adding that the car had a Patna registration number and the occupants were all residents of Khusrupur, a town on the outskirts of the Bihar capital.
The biscuits were examined by a local jeweller who said these weighed a total of 4.8 kg and could fetch up to Rs 1.5 crore in the market, the SP said.
The SP also said that the car was coming from Guwahati in Assam and was on its way to Patna and that investigations were on in the matter.
